Funding for studies and coastal defence work in Mounts Bay.



Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg visited Penzance today and used the opportunity to  announce cash for a study into building an offshore sea defences in Mount's Bay. £150,000 has been allocated  to perform an options review into a breakwater, a project MP Andrew George has been canvassing support for in Govt.  See Cornishman news item here.

The announcement comes as the Government announces £2.7 billion for schemes to reduce flood risk to approximately 500,000 homes. The details of flood defence projects have been published by the Government in its "Programme of Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Schemes"  (see Excel spread sheet accompanying press release here).  


The Excel spreadsheets lists over 1000 projects (each entry numbered).  Under projects in the ‘development phase’ the local projects are:

Line 835  Newlyn Fluvial  total cost £365,000  timescale 2018-2021 (Environment Agency)
Line 836  Newlyn Tidal  total cost £410,000  timescale 2018-2021 (Environment Agency)
Line 840 Penzance Wherrytown and Harbour total cost £1,345,000 timescale for project start 2016 – 2018 (Environment Agency). 
Line 860 Long Rock Revetment East £250,000  timescale 2018-2021  (Cornwall Council)
Line 861 Long Rock Revetment West £1,306,000 Timescale 2018- 2021  (Cornwall Council)
