Revised plans for the 60 sheltered retirement flats and 4 commercial units (on the ground floor) were approved by Cornwall Council last week for the Old Gas Works site. Work is expected to start in Feb 2015 and last between 12 and 15 months.
The original application in 2012 was refused by Cornwall Council but the decision was overturned on appeal and following a public enquiry. Whilst the development is not an ideal match for the Town, the site has contributed nothing to the economy of the Town for decades and has been a conspicuous eyesore on the harbourfront.
